LEARNING OUTCOMES :

• 904- Speaks fluently with proper pronunciation, intonation and pause using appropriate grammar.

• 906- Reads aloud and and recites poems with proper pronunciation, stress and intonation.

• 922- identifies and appreciate significant literary elements like, metaphor, imagery, simile, rhyme scheme, words etc

GENERAL OBJECTIVES

• Enable the students to read and enjoy the poem for pleasure

• Make them to learn parts of speech and dialogue writing

• Enable them to understand the main theme of the poem,

• Help them to appreciate the beauty of the poem

• Help and encourage them to apply their knowledge in their daily life situations for an effective communication skilfully.

SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES

• Enable the students to read / sing the poem on killing a tree for pleasure

• Enable them to understand parts of speech, it’s importance and usages.

• Make them to appreciate the poem theme and understand the importance of the tree through this poem

• Make them to understand various rules and usages of parts of speech to use them in their daily life communication situations effectively.

• Enable the students to speak and write simple grammatically correct Sentences

• Encourage the students to plant more trees and stop cutting of trees to save the nature and our lives.

MOTIVATION

ON KILLING A TREE



          Teacher will conduct an interesting activity in the class or outside of the class in order to motivate the students and make them mentally interested and ready for the learning process.Teacher will take the students
To the tree or make them to disguise as the tree, Then he will ask the Students to be in two groups, one Person From each group should come Forward, one has to take the part of the Tree cutter and the next one will act as the Tree, the tree cutter should try to cut the tree By saying his reasons, while the tree should Stop him by saying the various benefits of it.

Example :

Tree Cutter : I want to cut you now.
The tree       : No please don't cut me.
Tree cutter : I need money for my family to have food
The tree       : Please take my fruits eat it or sell it but        don't cut me
Tree Cutter : Good Idea, thank you, I won’t cut you.

Atlast the best performing students will be given prizes and appreciations.

The teacher will sing his own parts of speech song for motivating students.

Teacher will sing the song first then he will ask the students to sing with him rhymingly. He will ask them to list out the grammar items mentioned in the song.

INTRODUCTION

After the motivation process over teacher will discuss / ask the students some questions to check their previous knowledge regarding the topic or to check their general knowledge and understanding of the topic.

EXAMPLE

1) Why we should not cut the tree?
2) Mention some of the benefits of the trees?
3) Should we have to cut the trees or plant more trees?

By the way the teacher encourages the students to guess the topic or theme of the lesson and introduce the lesson.

TEACHING LEARNING ACTIVITIES.

TEACHERS ACTIVITIES 

GUIDED READING : The teacher selects a Stanza from the poem and gives a model reading with proper pronunciation, stress and rhythm etc

*He gives the meaning for the new words and explain the theme slightly.
Then he asks the students randomly to read the poem properly one by one. The students listen to the teacher’s reading and explanations attentively.

STUDENTS ACTIVITIES

*They read the poem properly one by one. With correct pronunciation and stress, teacher guides and correct their mistakes meanwhile.

TEACHERS ACTIVITIES

The teacher divide the class into four groups. He gives each groups one stanza to read and give their performance with action with their team at the class room. etc

He asks the groups one by one to see their performance. Good performing groups will be given prizes, appreciation etc.He asks them some testing questions meanwhile.

1) Can a simple knife kill tree ?
2) Which one is difficult to do? Planting/ growing a tree or cutting out a tree?

 STUDENTS GROUP ACTIVITY

The students groups came one by one and explain their understanding using simple English sentences as well as Tamil wherever needed.

By following the teacher’s Instructions the students will give their performance along with their team, They well answer for the teachers questions.

1.Ans: Yes,A simple knife can kill a tree

2.Ans : Planting and growing a tree is much difficult and it will take years, but cutting can be done in minutes.

ACTIVITY FOR PARTS OF SPEECH :

The teacher teaches the parts of speech with examples using the resources received from TNTP,DIKSHA, and YouTube as well as his own prepared Video Or Blog resources ( www.brightboard.net / parts of speech The studies listen to the teachers instructions carefully, learn the grammar concept attentively and write them important rules and uses on their note books.

REINFORCEMENT ACTIVITY

In order to recapitulate and reinforce the learning of the students the teacher give some useful and interesting Activities.

ACTIVITY ( EXAMPLE ON KILLING A TREE)

The teacher will divide the class into two groups and conduct a debate under his supervision. One group should support the tree cutting process while the another group oppose the tree cutting process. Each put their debate using simple English sentences and write their view on the black board under their allotted places. Teacher regulate the debate, guide them appreciating and commenting the participants for their performance positively. Finally he receives / gives his verdict from the students that the cutting of the trees must be avoided at any cost as it cost the life of the people.

ACTIVITY -2 ( SINGING THE POEM IN GROUPS AND LEARNING POETIC DEVICES)

The teacher divide the class into four groups. Ask them to sing the poem one by one ( only the memory part-2 stanzas) by making their own tune with their teammates. Then they will be asked to mark alliterating words, rhyming words, rhyming scheme, etc

REINFORCEMENT ACTIVITY FOR PARTS OF SPEECH

The teacher will conduct various activities for reinforcing the Grammar part of speech part as per the students and classroom situations. One among the activities is using of stick figures for teaching it. Teacher will either show them in tab or laptop or smart board or drew them on the board or distribute the flash cards with stick figures and do the varieties of activities using that.
• Talking / writing about the action of the stick figure

• One person will show the picture while another one will say/write opt sentence

• Matching the sentence with correct picture / stick figure

• Identification of parts of speech using the highlighted words in a sentence. etc

So, The teacher uses various activities as per the situations to reinforce the content effectively.

EVALUATION

 The teacher conducts a simple test by using the DIKSHA or Text book Qr code based assessment in order to check the students understanding of the topic taught.

REMEDIAL TEACHING

Teacher identifies the slow learners / low achievers through the evaluation. Then he plans as per their needs and use some interesting teaching materials created by the teacher or accessed from TNTP, DIKSHA, YOUTUBE etc. He will also extract the help from the gifted students to tech the slow learners effectively.

WRITING WORK

• Write the answers for the poem appreciation questions given at the text book.

• Find out the poetic devices like rhyming words, scheme, alliterating words, etc employed in the given poem.

FOLLOW UP WORK

• Plant a tree at your house or school water it and protect it regularly

• What is your favourite tree? Write about it and list out it’s uses. 
 
• Prepare / make a parts of speech chart with your friends
